5 Stars?
So, my question of the day. If someone builds a 5 star hotel in Forest Hills, will people come?
I just can't picture anything in Forest Hills being 5 stars.
Another voice in the wilderness of central Queens working towards Forest Hills 2.0.

Hey, welcome to the blogging world! If you do a little research on Heskel, you'll find that if he can't approach Donald Trump's net worth, he can at least come close to matching him in hyperbole. "Five star" is a stretch. I was talking to my wife about this -- she contended nobody would want to stay at a hotel in Forest Hills. But I think they would. Imagine you're visiting a major city, not New York. You could stay in the middle of the city at ridiculous rates, or for half the price, you could stay in a nice hotel in a nice neighborhood that's a 20-minute ride away from the city center on the area's famous public-transit system. Wouldn't you?
That's essentially what the conclusion was when we discussed this at our Passover Seder on Tuesday.
I'm also wondering if it will be a net positive for the neighborhood. If its mildly attractive and brings some good restaurants and retail to the hood then I'm all for it. But I have my doubts.
At least the plans look respectful to the local architecture, which is rare for new construction. What I do worry about is the loss of the retail space in the complex that would be ripped down. There are a few interesting things in there -- if I'm not mistaken, Tako Sushi, Thai Austin, Corfu, that comic-book shop, Ann Taylor Loft (hey, my wife loves it). Blockbuster? You can bet whatever would be in a hotel won't be so accessible.
Heh, my first comment came up as "electioneer," my three-year-old political blog that I tended for about a week before getting bored. Guess I don't post Blogspot comments very often.
Yeah, I figured it was an old handle for someone. Just looked at your old blog. Good stuff. Ah... 2004. Such innocent times.
